Ms. Knox’s 5th grade class had a tasty surprise last week. Child Nutrition Director Melissa Bryan visited to explain her role and let students know they were selected as taste testers for possible new menu items next year.

This week, her team returned with samples like pickle pizza, jalapeño grilled cheese, and Hot Cheeto chicken bites. Students tasted, rated, and shared their thoughts during a Q&A about the current menu. Child Nutrition left with some great feedback from our future food critics.

Last week we celebrated our students who earned perfect attendance for the entire first semester. From the very first day of school all the way to the day before winter break, these students showed up every day with no absences or tardies.
To celebrate their hard work and commitment, we enjoyed pizza with a special raffle where two lucky students went home with their choice of a bike or a scooter.

Way to show up and shine, Bulldawgs. Keep up the great work.💛💙🐾

Anna Rodriguez (KCCB) joined us on campus and spoke with students about the importance of keeping our city clean and how they can help maintain a beautiful community. We want to especially thank Mr. Gilbert for allowing his class to participate in this experience. We truly value opportunities like this to build relationships with our city partners and strengthen that connection because the future is Cove. It’s important for our students to see how they can get involved and support the community they will one day lead, while also becoming familiar with community members beyond the school setting.

Yesterday, we turned hard work into a celebration as we cheered on our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders for crushing the practice STAAR test. They had incredible focus, took their time, and their results showed amazing growth. To celebrate, students enjoyed cookies and pizza while jamming out to everyone’s favorite K-Pop Demon Hunters. We are so proud of their focus and commitment to doing their best. Way to go, Bulldawgs! 💛💙🐾

Boom boom clap! Our second six weeks pep rally brought the energy all the way up as a surprise drumline visit turned the gym into a rhythm-filled celebration of Bulldawg pride. Students and staff cheered their hearts out during an epic full-body Rock, Paper, Scissors showdown where the students claimed the win and the bragging rights.
The Spirit Stick also made its appearance, and congratulations to Ms. Klein for earning it with her outstanding school spirit. From the beats to the cheers, it was the perfect way to wrap up the six weeks and celebrate everything that makes Halstead such a special place.

Even with the weather keeping us indoors, the gym was full of energy as students jumped on bounce houses, raced through the inflatable obstacle course, and took their best shots at the inflatable basketball dunk. Attention Bulldawg families:
Our Lost & Found has officially become a winter coat shelter. 🥶
If your child has been mysteriously “losing” jackets, hoodies, or sweatshirts, chances are they’re all hanging out together waiting to be claimed. Please check the Lost & Found before Friday, because cold weather + winter break = sad, lonely coats.

Fifth grade students had a great time learning how to make grilled cheese with Ms. Peoples. From buttering the bread to flipping the sandwich at just the right moment, students learned the steps needed to create a perfectly golden grilled cheese. Along the way, they practiced following directions, kitchen safety, and responsibility while preparing a classic favorite.
Learning has never tasted so good! 💛💙🐾
