Our leadership team has continued to evaluate weather and road conditions across our community, as well as the forecast, and we’ve remained in constant communication with all appropriate agencies. With today’s warm-up, conditions have improved enough that Copperas Cove ISD will reopen and return to class on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at its normal start time.

CCISD buses will run at their normal time, and breakfast will be served at its normal time at every campus. Parents are encouraged to ensure their student is dressed warmly for the day.

Once students and staff return tomorrow, the district will begin a review of whether any changes to the academic calendar are required alongside district staff and the Board of Trustees. If so, those will communicated with families as soon as possible.

Due to continued hazardous conditions on roadways, an an abundance of precipitation on the roadways projected to refreeze across Copperas Cove, Copperas Cove ISD schools and offices will remain closed out of an abundance of caution on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

Activities scheduled for Wednesday will be rescheduled for a later date.

CCISD leadership has continued to evaluate road conditions across our community, as well as the forecast which includes more freezing temperatures, and while major roadways have improved, too many neighborhood, rural and hill-side streets remain covered in ice. Many school parking lots and entryways remain covered in ice, as well. We've included several photos in this post taken earlier this afternoon.

Given the state of the roads and school parking lots, it is not safe to ask our bus drivers to report in the early morning hours to run routes in these conditions, nor to ask the several-hundred student and parent drivers to commute to school in the morning.

Copperas Cove ISD expects to be able to reopen on Thursday, January 28, 2026, but will continue to evaluate and communicate with the appropriate agencies to ensure it is safe to do so. Once CCISD is able to safely return to school, we will work alongside district staff and the Board of Trustees to evaluate if a change needs to be made to the academic calendar. If so, those will be communicated with families as soon as possible.

“I know this extended closure may create challenges for families,” said Superintendent Dr. Brent Hawkins. “Thank you for your patience, support, and understanding as we put the safety of everybody in our school community first. We look forward to a safe return to school as soon as possible.”

Yesterday, HHE had the pleasure of welcoming our Copperas Cove School Board members as part of the board recognition month for breakfast as a small way to say thank you for all they do in support of our schools.

We began the morning with a special musical performance by our entire first-grade class, who worked so hard to prepare a wonderful show. Following their performance, our Student Council shared a presentation highlighting the many great accomplishments they have achieved this year.

We are incredibly proud of our students for representing HHE so well and appreciative of our School Board for their continued dedication and support. Way to go, Bulldawgs! 💙💛

Halstead families, we need your help!

Student Council is hosting HHE’s 1st Annual Toiletry Drive from January 19 through January 30, and we are collecting new, unused essential items to donate to a local senior center. Your generosity will help provide comfort, care, and smiles to members of our elderly community. We are collecting new, unused items such as: Socks, toilet paper, toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, mouthwash, deodorant, hand soap, razors, shampoo, conditioner, hairbrushes, body wash, washcloths, lotion, lip balm, wet wipes, and hand sanitizer.

Here’s the fun part… the class that donates the most items will win a treat! So start cleaning out those cabinets, grab a few extras on your next store run, and let’s see which class can rise to the challenge. Every donation makes a difference. Thank you for helping our Bulldawgs spread kindness and care throughout the community!

Ms. Knox’s 5th grade class had a tasty surprise last week. Child Nutrition Director Melissa Bryan visited to explain her role and let students know they were selected as taste testers for possible new menu items next year.

This week, her team returned with samples like pickle pizza, jalapeño grilled cheese, and Hot Cheeto chicken bites. Students tasted, rated, and shared their thoughts during a Q&A about the current menu. Child Nutrition left with some great feedback from our future food critics.

Last week we celebrated our students who earned perfect attendance for the entire first semester. From the very first day of school all the way to the day before winter break, these students showed up every day with no absences or tardies.
To celebrate their hard work and commitment, we enjoyed pizza with a special raffle where two lucky students went home with their choice of a bike or a scooter.

Way to show up and shine, Bulldawgs. Keep up the great work.💛💙🐾

Anna Rodriguez (KCCB) joined us on campus and spoke with students about the importance of keeping our city clean and how they can help maintain a beautiful community. We want to especially thank Mr. Gilbert for allowing his class to participate in this experience. We truly value opportunities like this to build relationships with our city partners and strengthen that connection because the future is Cove. It’s important for our students to see how they can get involved and support the community they will one day lead, while also becoming familiar with community members beyond the school setting.
